Henry’s Personal Biography
I was born in Tampa,
Florida in 1940. I attended Hillsborough County
public schools, graduating with honors from Plant High
School in 1958. I received a B.S. in
Mathematics from the University of Tampa
in 1964 and a M.A. in Mathematics Education from the University of South Florida in 1970. In addition, I have done all but dissertation
on a Ph.D. in Curriculum from the University
of South Florida. Through the United States Sailing Association,
I am a Certified Regional Race Officer as well as a Senior Judge. During the last 30 years, I have been the
Principal Race Officer for more than 200 events from the local club level to
many national and international events.
The highlight of my race management career was being the officer on the
weather mark boat for the sailboard class during the 1996 Olympic Regatta in
Savannah, Georgia (Since Atlanta has very little sailing water, the sailing
events were held in Savannah; the picture at the left is me on the bow of our
mark boat for the Olympic Regatta).
In addition,
prior to my retirement in 2001, I was an educator for 38 years. I spent:
Ø
five years as a math
teacher with Madison
Jr. High
School in Tampa
Ø
two years as a math
teacher with Chamberlain
High School in Tampa
Ø
three years as a math
teacher with St. Petersburg Jr. College
Ø
12 years as the Assistant
Principal for Curriculum at Gibbs High School in St.
Petersburg, Florida
Ø
16 years as the Assistant
Principal for Curriculum at Countryside
High School in Clearwater,
Florida
I am also a
certified instructor for US
Sailing’s Basic Race Management Course.
This course is available to yacht clubs and sailing associations
throughout the United States and the Caribbean.
If your club is interested in offering a Basic Race Management Seminar
in your area, please email me for further details.
